Arles Brass Band
During the 1930's some of the members of this band were William Muldowney, Arles. Markie Brennan, Cooper Hill on Cornet & Trombone, Tin Whistle & Mouth Organ. Paddy Moran Arles on Bass drum.  Joe Brennan, Ballickmoyler on Kettle drum, Owen Redmond on Trombone, Paddy Redmond on Baritone, Kennedy's of the Strand on Clarinet, Mick McDonald Ashfield, (big stooke) on Bass.  Mr Boyle from Carlow was the Band Master until he had a mighty row with Fr Killian about how 'Daily Daily Sing to Mary' (which was a catholic hymn that was sang in school) should be arranged. It ended up with big Mick threatening to hit him and kill him, in support of church and country, dreadful.  Mr Boyle was consequently sacked and replaced by Mr Rafter.

ARLES GAELIC JUNIOR FOOTBALL TEAM c1950's

 (Source Mike McCaffrey ex pupil)

In the 1950's Jack McCaffrey formed a Gaelic Junior Football team in Arles and won 3 games against Killabban, Killeen and Ballylynan. Unfortunately the team folded shortly afterwards because there was little interest and junior players were not interested at the time so he was unable to provide a full team of players to continue playing.

In 1955/6 a little girl went missing in the area. People from Arles and Ballickmoyler searched for her all night. Next morning when she was found safe and well and in good health. Her fathers name was Henry Ovington.
